IPR-Related Law in Malaysia
The Copyright Act 1987 (Section 41) Offences. Any person who during the subsistence of copyright in a work or performers' right makes for sale or hire any infringing copy (Section 41a); sells, lets for hire or by way of trade, exposes or offers for sale or hire any infringing copy (section 41b); distributes infringing copies (section 41c) and by way of trade, exhibits in public any infringing copy (section 41e) shall on conviction be liable to fine not exceeding ten thousand ringgit for each infringing copy, or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years or to both and for any subsequent offence, to a fine not exceeding twenty thousand ringgit for each infringing copy or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years or to both.
