The Malaysian Federation Against Copyright Theft (MFACT) was established in 2007 by the Motion Picture Association (MPA) to protect the interest of MPA member companies in Malaysia from the adverse impact of copyright theft. To achieve this, MFACT works closely with the Malaysian Government and enforcement authorities to protect the interest of MPA member companies in Malaysia and to promote respect of copyright and intellectual property.

MFACT represents the interest and protects the copyrights in Malaysia of the following MPA member companies, Paramount Pictures Corporation, Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, Universal City Studios LLLP, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. and ESA members.

MFACT and its member companies employ a multi-pronged approach to fighting piracy that includes taking action against Internet thieves and cooperating with Ministry of Domestic Trade & Consumer Affairs and Malaysian Police to shut down illegal duplication operations and to seize counterfeits and duplicating equipment.

Manufacturing, selling, copying or distributing films or television programs without the consent of copyright holders is illegal. To combat the illegal recording of movies in local cinemas, the industry in Malaysia has deployed a battalion of large, well-muscled fellows who are stationed at all points of entry to cinema halls nationwide. These intimidating characters, code-named �Mr. Security�, are employed solely to remind moviegoers that recording in cinemas is illegal

At the top of the piracy pyramid, camcorders supply more than 90% of newly released movies that illegally end up on the Internet and in street markets around the world.
